Authenticity Descriptions
2-Week Panic: Nearly all the sewing construction is done on a machine, including topstitched hems and attaching trim. It is the down-and-dirty, throw-it-together project. Being hardly authentic, it only refers to historical styles through seam placement and silhouette – a Halloween costume. Historical Costume: This project strives for authenticity but doesn’t have or won’t take the time for pure accuracy. Major assembly is done by machine with all finishing completed by hand. Time required is from two to six months for a complete ensemble using modern shortcuts integrated with historical techniques. Period Clothing: Only historical techniques are used including all hand sewing for clothing before the 1850s. The silhouette and fit are perfected with seams in the proper places. Truly period accurate garments take about six months or longer with today’s busy schedules.
